Attending the London Legacy Conference at the Guildhall today was an incredible opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions about supported internships and employment pathways for young people with disabilities.
Organized by the City of London Corporation, Internship Works, and many other key stakeholders, the event brought together professionals, policymakers, and advocates dedicated to making a difference.
As a mother of three children with learning disabilities, I had the privilege of sharing my lived experience—how supported internships have transformed my daughters’ futures and are now helping my son as he navigates his own internship journey. These programs are not just initiatives; they are lifelines that empower young people to gain confidence, skills, and independence.
It was encouraging to see ministers and MPs present, including the Minister for Social Security and Disability and the Minister for School Standards. Their presence highlights the growing commitment to inclusive employment, but there is still much work to be done.
Every opportunity like this is a chance to raise awareness, advocate for change, and ensure that no young person is left behind. As both a mother and an advocate, I remain committed to pushing for greater accessibility, understanding, and support in education and employment.
